My current research focuses on the cultural and textual traditions of communities residing along the Indian Ocean littoral, especially in the south-western part of the Indian Ocean. It examines how these communities formed and their position within a wider trans-continental context, extending the study to contemporary ethnographic perspectives. The study explores the historical peculiarities that this specific littoral geography has exhibited over time and how its “geo-body” has transformed across different periods. In addition, it addresses the various identity tensions—both in academic conceptualizations and in lived realities—experienced by the people inhabiting this region.

I hail from Guwahati, Assam, and completed my Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Delhi. My research interests lie in the intersections of popular culture, mental health, family structures, and kinship studies. I am particularly drawn to how cultural narratives, media, and everyday social practices shape personal identities and emotional well-being.
I chose to pursue an M.A. in Society and Culture because it allows me to engage with interdisciplinary perspectives, connect sociological theory with contemporary cultural phenomena, and deepen my understanding of how social worlds are experienced and constructed. Through this programme, I hope to develop a more holistic and critical approach to the study of society, relationships, and emerging cultural forms.
