In spite of being an old method of storytelling, comics/graphic novels have recently emerged as a new media. For the last few decades in parallel to the world of superheroes by Marvel and DC, alternative comics have become one of the favourite tools to express and narrate personal stories, family history, pain, gender issues, environment, history and many other subject matters that used to come under the umbrella of academic research. Alongside being an entertaining medium, comics have been emerging as a tool for teaching and critical thinking. But, a gap between academia and the world of storytelling through comics still exists. The idea of organizing a comics conclave at IIT Gandhinagar is to bridge the gap bringing the leading comics artists, comics scholars and academicians from the country on the same platform to make dialogues, to exchange knowledge and to explore future possibilities in storytelling.
